Workshop "Touched/Retouched: Paper across Time (1400-1800)"
On Wednesday, 13th of November, the Fondazione Fedrigoni Fabriano had the honor of hosting a day of the prestigious workshop “Touched/Retouched: Paper across Time (1400-1800)”, promoted by the Bibliotheca Hertziana and the Istituto Centrale per la Grafica, with the support of the Getty Foundation (Rome, November 11-16).
Thirty experts and curators of collections of drawings and prints from the most renowned museums in the world, including The Metropolitan Museum in New York, the Louvre in Paris and the British Museum in London, came together to delve deeper into the study of paper and its manipulation techniques through seminars, practical sessions and conferences.
The guests explored the headquarters of the Foundation, located in the evocative historical complex of the Fabriano paper mills, admiring the Archive and the Deposit with over 10,000 tools for making paper by hand and by machine. They also attended a lesson by Mauro Mussolin, professor at the University of Roma Tre and member of the Scientific Council of the Foundation, and visited the Vats Department of the Fabriano paper mill, which was opened in an extraordinary way for the occasion. Here, with the help of the master papermakers, they had the opportunity to try their hand at making a sheet of paper by hand.
A unique and stimulating experience that offered a precious opportunity to share knowledge, innovate and create synergies.
