Fabriano between History and Innovation: The Use of Nanomaterials in Paper Restoration
The new frontier of conservation restoration and a nearly millennia-old paper tradition met in Fabriano. "Fabriano between History and Innovation: The Use of Nanomaterials in Paper Restoration" was the title of the conference held on May 17 at the Miliani Paper Mill Complex (Sala Forme of the Deposito dei Beni Storici Cartari), promoted by the Fedrigoni Fabriano Foundation in collaboration with Fedrigoni SpA, Stefania Zeppieri (Conservation and Restoration of Archival and Library Materials, Works of Art on Paper, and Related Artifacts), Antonio Mirabile (Paper Conservator), and GREen ENdeavor in Art ResToration (GREENART).
During the conference, guidelines and perspectives for watermark detection based on the Corpus Chartarum Fabriano model were presented, along with the least invasive and most innovative methods in paper restoration, namely nanomaterials and nanotechnologies. These were illustrated by internationally renowned experts who explained their methodologies and characteristics.
After the introduction by Livia Faggioni (Coordinator of the Foundation), Stefania Zeppieri (Conservator of archival and library materials, works of art on paper, and related artifacts, responsible for conservation) spoke, followed by Giovanni Luzi (Archivist at the Fedrigoni Fabriano Foundation, responsible for compiling the data for the Corpus Chartarum Fabriano), Elena Santilli (Philologist and adjunct professor at the University of Macerata), Rosangela Guerra (Official at the Archival and Bibliographic Superintendency of the Marche), Antonio Mirabile (Restorer of works of art on paper, Partner of the GREen ENdeavor in Art ResToration project), and Giovanna Poggi (RTDb - Department of Chemistry & CSGI - University of Florence, Member of the Coordination Team of CSGI, coordinator of the GREen ENdeavor in Art ResToration project). The event was concluded by President Chiara Medioli Fedrigoni.
*** The conference was made possible thanks to the contribution granted by the Directorate-General for Education, Research, and Cultural Institutes of the Ministry of Culture.
The event was sponsored by the Municipality of Fabriano, the Marche Region, the Archival and Bibliographic Superintendency of the Marche, and the Pia Università dei Cartai.
