Paper Travels - I viaggi della Carta
The Fedrigoni Fabriano Foundation and the international research network COST Action PIMo once again chose Fabriano to host the workshop "Paper Travels - I viaggi della carta". On Friday, April 21, at 4 PM, the event welcomed international experts in the history of paper from across Europe to the evocative setting of the Deposito dei Beni Storici Cartari (Miliani Paper Mill Complex).
The Fedrigoni Fabriano Foundation has strengthened its relationship with COST Action PIMo, "People in Motion," led by Professor Giovanni Tarantino of the University of Florence and funded by the COST Association (European Cooperation in Science and Technology). This international research network studies the movement of ideas, people, paper, and goods across the Mediterranean from the late Middle Ages to the modern era. Specifically, it collaborates with one of the four working groups, "Paper in Motion," coordinated by Professor José María Pérez Fernández of the University of Granada (Spain).
Fabriano, the "city of paper," has once again taken center stage in the international arena of paper studies and research, thanks to its centuries-old tradition and the relentless innovation of its master papermakers. Following the 2021 conference "Paper Production and Trade: The Onset of the Paper Revolution in the Mediterranean," which explored the spread of paper production technologies across the Mediterranean, this time the analysis focused on the material conditions in which this production began, as well as the social, cultural, political, and economic implications of its uses.
