Sign up for the workshop! For the first time in Italy.
As part of the 2024–2025 Italy-Korea Cultural Exchange Year, an initiative celebrating 140 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries and aimed at deepening mutual understanding and promoting friendship through culture, the Fedrigoni Fabriano Foundation—continuing its mission to develop advanced training projects in the field of paper conservation and restoration—will host a two-day workshop titled “Il metodo tradizionale coreano della tintura della carta” ('The Traditional Korean Method of Paper Dyeing').
The workshop will be led by Professor Lee Seung-chul, artist and lecturer at Dongduk Women’s University in Seoul (South Korea), in collaboration with Chiara Fornaciari da Passano, Head of the Paper Conservation Laboratory at the Vatican Museums.
The course will take place in the Conservation and Restoration Laboratory of the Foundation, inaugurated in May 2023 and curated by conservator Stefania Zeppieri. The lab was established as a hub for interdisciplinary exchange and research in the fields of paper and watermark studies, and it supports broader research activities.
The workshop, which will be held for the first time in Italy, will allow conservators to acquire skills in dyeing Korean hanji paper using 100% natural colors, with the aim of applying it in conservation treatments. Participants will have the opportunity to learn traditional Korean methods which, supported by the most advanced scientific research, can be effectively used in the field of cultural heritage restoration.
