Lapin. "Urban sketching" in the Historic Paper Mill Complex
On April 12th, the Fedrigoni Fabriano Foundation hosted an extraordinary event INAF SKETCHTOUR: DRAWING ASTROPHYSICS with French artist and “mobile illustrator” Lapin, promoted by the Laboratorio di Scienze Sperimentali O.D.V., in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Fabriano, the Municipality of Fabriano, and the Associazione per la promozione turistica e culturale dell’Appennino Umbro Marchigiano A.P.S. on occasion of "Festa di Scienza e di Filosofia - Virtute e Canoscenza" (10th - 13th of April, www.festascienzafilosofia.it).
In the picturesque historical complex of the Miliani Paper Mills in Fabriano, Lapin led an Urban Sketching workshop. Th young participants had the unique opportunity to learn how to intuitively and accessibly sketch the beauty of the historic site of the Fabriano Paper Mills. Lapin shared his expertise and techniques, guiding attendees through simple steps to create a sketch based on direct observation, using fineliner and watercolor on FABRIANO paper.
This workshop celebrated the industriousness, entrepreneurial ingenuity, and creativity of the region, offering an unforgettable experience to all present.
INAF SKETCHTOUR: DRAWING ASTROPHYSICS is part of the project “Sketchtour: Atlante illustrato dell'Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica” promoted by INAF. This project arises from the meeting of art and science, two worlds that, despite their different languages, share the same goal: to explore and narrate the reality around us.

Lapin biography
Lapin (1981) is a French artist living in Barcelona. He defines hisself as a "mobile illustrator" and he registers his life in drawings: he filled more than 220 sketchbooks during the past 20 years. He participates to the Urban Sketchers community since its beginning and he was nominated official air and space painter for the French army in 2019. He uses to sketch on vintage accounting books that he finds in flea markets. This old paper with red and blue lines reminds him the first drawings and observations that brought back the scientist expedition of the XVIIIth century like Cook or Laperouse from unknown civilisations and lands. He wishes to become one of those explorers. The economy of medium is also what he appreciates. He's traveling light and don't need much more than a sketchbook, a fineliner, watercolor and his folding stool. The street is his studio. He already published 50 books about Barcelona, Paris, Japan, Cuba, and for museums around the world (Arts et Métiers, Le Bourget, Deutsches Museum, Qatar Museum) and recently for inaf in a sketchtour around Italy.
