The Contribution of the Fedrigoni Fabriano Foundation to the Revival of the ‘Libro del Camerlengo
Falconara Marittima has been able to welcome back one of the most precious treasures of its civic memory: the Libro del Camerlengo. An ancient register, used between 1555 and 1576 to record the municipality’s income and expenses, and the only survivor of the devastating destruction of the town’s historical archive in 1949.
Its revival was made possible thanks to the delicate restoration carried out by Stefania Zeppieri and the valuable contribution of the Fedrigoni Fabriano Foundation, which provided expertise for the analysis and identification of the watermarks found in the document. This initiative was strongly supported and promoted by the Archival and Bibliographic Superintendency of the Marche Region.
The results of this journey—marked by care, research, and innovation—were presented during the conference “The Libro del Camerlengo (1555–1576) of the Municipality of Falconara Marittima. Completion of Innovative Restoration Work through the Application of Nanomaterials and Digitization.”
The event, moderated by Rosangela Guerra, an official of the Superintendency, featured contributions from Marco Giacanella, Councillor for Culture of the Municipality of Falconara; Superintendent Benedetto Luigi Compagnoni; restorer Stefania Zeppieri together with Sara Coccoli and Giovanni Luzi of the Fedrigoni Fabriano Foundation; Alessandra Cesanelli of the State Archives of Ancona; and Massimo Bonifazi of Bonifazi Archivi Sas.
Thanks to this extraordinary collective effort, the book has finally come back to life.
